My 1963 Galaxie 500

Welcome!

This site covers the restoration of a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500, that I purchased in April, 2002.
The car had enjoyed a fairly sheltered life, with "only" 122,900 miles when I bought it. The sheriff of a nearby county had kept the car in a barn for 25 years!

The Galaxie is done and has a new home...

I took the car to it's first car show in June of 2005, and a young gentlemen with a growing family traded me his 1968 Karmann Ghia convertible for the Galaxie.

I now have purchased a 1967 Ford F100 which will now go thru the process.

Why this one ?
1963 was a very good year for me. In '63 I met and began dating my wife JoAnne. In '63, I started to work in the radio business, which I have enjoyed for the last 42 years. In '63, the world was a fairly simple and safe place, and anything that can take me back there is welcome...

Why "do" an old car?
I was searching for a touch of my youth. When my wife and I were dating in 1963, I owned a 1954 Ford Mainline 2 door. Having reached the restless age of silver hair, JoAnne and I thought we should be two old farts at a car show and restore one! So, I began to search for a suitable candidate. Every 54 I found was a rust bucket, or someone thought it was gold plated. Then while on the way to an antique auction, I found this auto-antique!

Day One...
I took this picture so that I could "mull" over the purchase. It took me all of one day to realize that a car this new had to be brought back. Here it is still in the previous owners front yard. A small dent on the left rear fender from a falling limb, one spot of rust on the driver quarter panel about the size of a dime, and drive it anywhere...."yeah, I can deal with that'.
